[Class 83 (iii)] A tool-holder for lathes, planers and like machines has a combined clamp and guard member which exerts a downwardly and rearwardly acting force upon a tool bit 7, the member 8 having a forwardly extending tapered nose portion with a surface rounded in a vertical longitudinal plane and in a plane perpendicular thereto, and also being provided with a depending anchor portion 14 which has a long bearing against a bore 15 in the holder, clamping screw means 19 being provided having a loose fit in the clamp and a threaded engagement in the holder. The tool bit 7 may be of cemented carbide and may have serrations on its lower face to engage similar serrations on its seating in the holder. A holder 6 may be provided with a tool bit 7 at each end. |
