An energy storage system is disclosed, which comprises an electrolyser, a hydrogen gas storage and a power plant and at least one additional gas storage for natural gas to blend the hydrogen before combustion, the electrolyser being connected to the hydrogen gas storage, the hydrogen gas storage being connected to the power plant, wherein the electrolyser is a high pressure electrolyser. A method for storing and supplying energy is also disclosed, which comprises the steps of: delivering electrical energy to an electrolyser; decomposing water into oxygen and hydrogen gas by means of the electrolyser; storing the hydrogen gas; supplying the stored hydrogen gas to a power plant; blending the hydrogen before combustion with natural gas and/or diluent; and producing electrical energy by means of the power plant. |
