<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption with a viewing state of a viewer improved. <P>SOLUTION: An image recognition unit 163 performs face detection processing to a viewing space image obtained by an image obtaining unit 161 through a camera drive control unit 162 to specify a viewer, and calculates and outputs a viewing distance and a viewing position of the viewer to a viewing state improvement processing unit 13. The viewing state improvement processing unit 13 obtains a video signal from a tuner 10 or an external image input unit 11 through a video audio processing unit 12. The viewing state improvement processing unit 13 determines a display size on the basis of the viewing distance obtained from a camera 16, and determines a display area of a screen on the basis of the viewing position. A panel unit 152 generates, on the basis of the video signal, an image of the display size in the display area determined by the viewing state improvement processing unit 13.
