<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston ring assembling device which can reliably assemble a piston ring in the piston ring groove of a piston and which can be configured at low cost, and also provide a method of assembling a piston ring. <P>SOLUTION: A load on an electric motor 11 (actuator) during the feeding of piston rings is monitored, and the predetermined load variation of the electric motor 11 is detected to detect that a head piston ring 3 abuts on shutters 7 so as to stop the feeding operation of the piston ring 3 by a piston ring feeding mechanism 8. Since a variation in the stopping position of the head piston ring 3 can be suppressed, the piston ring 3 can be reliably assembled in the piston ring groove 4.
