<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device for determining whether a video signal is up-converted based on a signal state and, if the video signal is up-converted, performing video signal processing for the up-converted video signal to improve an image quality of the up-converted video signal. <P>SOLUTION: A signal processing unit 40 of a display device 100 comprises a video signal processing unit 41 and a signal type determination unit 42. The signal type determination unit 42 determines whether a video signal is up-converted based on a black level on a left/right of a screen, a bit rate, and an SN which indicate a signal state of the video signal to notify the video signal processing unit 41.
