Disclosed are fused bicyclic heteroaryl derivatives represented by general formula (I), such as 3-{ [6-(3-fluorophenoxy)-1-methyl-1H-benzimidazol-2-yl]methoxy} benzoic acid, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. Also disclosed is the use of the compounds of general formula (I) for treating diabetes, activating PPAR-gamma, improving carbohydrate or lipid metabolism, improving insulin resistance, inhibiting inflammation, inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, for the treatment and/or prevention of hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, adiposity, impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance, impaired fasting glucose hypertension, fatty liver, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, diabetic complications, arteriosclerosis, atherosclerosis, gestational diabetes mellitus or polycystic ovary syndrome.
