<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chair, in which strong elastic support is provided at necessary parts of spread members spread over a backrest or a seat member without extremely varying elastic support depending on parts for loads on the back or the lower half of a seated person. <P>SOLUTION: In the chair 1, the spread member 16 is spread over a rectangular frame 15 on the backrest 12. A plurality of strip-shaped step parts 20 horizontally extended to protrude on the surface of the spread member 16 are arranged along the longitudinal direction of the vertical direction of the backrest 12 to be apart from each other.
