<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treatment method which can effectively use steel slag. <P>SOLUTION: The method for treating steel slag includes stirring steel slag in an organic acid solution followed by solid-liquid separation to recover a high iron content substance having a Fe<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>content of 40 mass% or more. As the organic acid solution, it is preferred to use a solution of salicylic acid in methanol.
