The present invention provides a topical skin preparation that contains one or more melanin synthesis-inhibiting substances and one or more topical skin preparation compounding ingredients. More specifically, provided is a topical skin preparation that imparts an excellent feeling upon use, exhibits excellent skin-whitening effects, and contains: one or more melanin synthesis-inhibiting substances selected from a group consisting of zederone, furanodienone, curzerenone, hydrogenated zederone and hydrogenated furanodienone; and one or more topical skin preparation compounding ingredients selected from a group consisting of specific oil components, water soluble components and polymers.
