Tumor angiogenesis associated genes and a method for their identification using HMGB1 inhibitors

Disclosed is an in vitro method to identify candidate drugs for treating a patient having a pathological condition or a susceptibility to a pathological condition. The disclosed method comprises: i. contacting a test agent with recombinant host cells transfected with an expression construct which encodes for a specific sequence, as defined in the specification, including parts thereof, where said part has an amino acid sequence at least 70% identical to said specific sequence; ii. determining the amount of proliferation of said cells; iii. identifying a test agent as a candidate drug for treating patients having a pathological condition or a susceptibility to a pathological condition if it modulates the proliferation of said cells.
