<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that eliminates the need to set a threshold which does not depend upon the size of a shape and depends upon an object when detecting a shape which is large in number of parameters like a sphere, a cylinder, or a cone from a distance image and surface shape data. <P>SOLUTION: A body shape detection device includes an input device, a detection processing unit, and a cylinder and cone detection unit. The input device acquires input data of distance image or surface shape dot group data of an object. The detection processing unit detects a plane shape, a sphere shape, and respective parameters from the input data.
