A method for indicating a valid area of a broadcast service is disclosed by the present invention, which includes that: for a Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), the network side sends configuration information of the MBMS through an air interface; wherein location information for indicating the MBMS valid is added in the configuration information. A system for indicating a valid area of a broadcast service is disclosed by the present invention at the same time, which includes that: for the MBMS, a transmission unit is used for sending configuration information of the MBMS through an air interface; wherein location information for indicating the MBMS valid is added in the configuration information. The present invention satisfies the transmission requirements of operation providers for given area services, and can help a User Equipment (UE) to shield services need not to be received and reduce power waste.
