Provided is a resolution evaluation device, wherein, whether an input image is an image up-converted from an image having a relatively low resolution is evaluated on the basis of one frame image. The resolution evaluation device comprises: an edge strength calculation unit that obtains edge strength on the basis of the brightness of a pixel and the brightness of a pixel adjacent thereto, for each of a plurality of pixels contained in an input image; and a resolution evaluation unit that evaluates whether the input image is an image up-converted from an image having a resolution not more than a prescribed resolution, on the basis of frequency distribution of the edge strength, and outputs the evaluation result.
