<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a subject from disappearing from an image by an auto-zoom function. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises an image pick-up device 106 photoelectrically converting a subject formed by a photographic optical system, image creation means 108 for creating an image using output signals from the image pick-up device, size detection means 112 for detecting the size of a specific subject in the image, storage means 116 for storing a target value of the size of the specific subject, control means 114 for performing an auto-zoom control to take at least one of an optical zoom operation of a photographic optical system and an electronic zoom operation using the image so that the size of the specific subject is identical to or near the target value, and position detection means 112 for detecting a position of the specific subject in the image.
