<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing iron sulfide capable of controlling the form and crystal structure of iron sulfide according to the desired capability, adopting a low-pollution production process, and producing iron sulfide with low energy; and iron sulfide obtained by the method. <P>SOLUTION: FeSO<SB POS="POST">4</SB>hydrate, Na<SB POS="POST">2</SB>S<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>, and S are mixed, and the solution is adjusted to a pH range of 1.0-7.0 and then treated at 25-400°C. Further, a metal salt containing at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Cu, Pb, Zn, Mn, Cr, Co, V, and Ni is mixed. Furthermore, FeS<SB POS="POST">2</SB>or the like is mixed as a seed crystal. The metal salt may be lead acetate or the like.
