MICROWAVE BATTER CONTAINER WITH MICROWAVE SHIELD

A packaged article 10 for the microwave cooking preparation of a finished baked good that exhibits exhibiting greater preparation abuse tolerance of overcooking, comprises a cup 13 having a sidewall body with an inner and an outer major surface, a bottom attached or extending from the sidewall defining a cup upper open end 14 and an interior cavity 15, a sealing surface proximate to the open end 14, and a sealing membrane 12 covering the cup upper open end and defining a headspace. The cup 13 is fabricated from temperature resistant material. The membrane 12 which is peelably removably sealed to the sealing surface and forms a hermetic seal is fabricated from a low oxygen and carbon dioxide permeability sealing membrane material. The headspace 18 has a modified low oxygen atmosphere. The cup 13 has an interior cavity 15 having a volume ranging from about 50 to 250cc., an oxygen gas permeability of about 0.1 cc/package/24 hr. or less, and a microwave shield 50 surrounding at least a portion of the sidewall top or bottom sufficient to reflect sufficient incident microwave wave to attenuate the microwave transmission at that area to less than 50%.
