A latch 1 for releasably retaining a hinged panel 2 in an open or closed position, comprises a base plate 3, an arm 11 extending from the base plate 3, and release means 12. The base plate 3 is attachable to a fixed support structure in the form of a post 4. The arm 11 is spring loaded with respect to the base plate 3, and includes retention means 12 for receiving and retaining a bottom edge of the hinged panel 2. The release means 12 releases the hinged panel 2 from the retention means 12 and/or the arm 11, and is in the form of a foot operable portion 15 located at or towards the distal end of the arm 11.
