<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for monitoring the state of an internal combustion engine which is capable of identifying blow-by of an intake valve and/or blow-by of an exhaust valve, and/or deposition of carbon on a cylinder. <P>SOLUTION: The state of an intake valve SV of a cylinder is monitored based on the comparison of the observed signal waveform at the timing of explosion in a cylinder 1 through a cylinder 16 with the reference signal waveform at the timing of explosion. The state of an exhaust valve DV is monitored based on the comparison of the observed signal waveform at the timing of the explosion, the timing of closing the exhaust valve, and the timing of closing the intake valve, with the reference signal waveform at each timing. The state of carbon deposition on a cylinder is monitoring by comparing the observed signal waveform at the timing of the explosion of the cylinder with the reference signal waveform at the timing of the explosion in the cylinder. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
