A modular, recycling, cleaning system (1) substantially for domestic use is disclosed. The system has a cleaner body (7, 10) able to incorporate a number of sub-systems that may be combined in a number of ways depending on the desired cleaning mode. A 3-way valve (16) assists to connect the various components together. The control of the various electric motors incorporated within the system are modulated in either a continuous or stepwise manner such that the electric current draw of the cleaning system remains substantially constant and below a pre-set threshold regardless of combination. The modular recycling cleaning system can function in any one of the following cleaning modes: i. a straight through pressure washer with cleaning liquid supplied from an external source. ii. a straight through pressure washer with cleaning liquid supplied internally from a reservoir module (32). iii. a recycling pressure washer with filtered cleaning liquid supplied internally, which recovered, separated and reused. iv. a straight through pressure washer with recovery of contaminated cleaning liquid. v. a wet vacuum cleaning system where liquids or material are recovered substantially in the wet state within the reservoir module. vi. a dry vacuum cleaning system where material is recovered substantially in the dry state for within the reservoir module.
