The invention relates to a storage assembly (10) and a method of storing elongated piece goods (5), consisting in particular of wood. A first elevating cross conveyor (1) is situated on a first side (11) of the storage assembly (10) and a second elevating cross conveyor (2) is situated on the second side (12) of the storage assembly (10). At least two storage levels (3) are situated between the first elevating cross conveyor (1) and the second elevating cross conveyor (2). Each of the storage planes (3) comprises at least one storage cross conveyor (4) provided in order to transport the elongated timber goods (5) between the first elevating cross conveyor (1) and the second elevating cross conveyor (2).
