<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a novel transition metal complex useful for light emitting devices, LEDs and the like. <P>SOLUTION: The transition metal complex represented by formula (II) is produced by reacting a compound represented by formula (I): [R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>CH=CR<SP POS="POST">2</SP>-Z<SP POS="POST">1</SP>-NR<SP POS="POST">3</SP>-CH-Y<SP POS="POST">1</SP>-R<SP POS="POST">4</SP>]<SP POS="POST">t+</SP>X<SP POS="POST">t-</SP>with a compound represented by Q<SB POS="POST">q</SB>M<SP POS="POST">1</SP>A<SP POS="POST">1</SP><SB POS="POST">m</SB>L<SB POS="POST">n</SB>(for example, IrCl<SB POS="POST">3</SB>) in the presence of a compound represented by M<SP POS="POST">2</SP><SB POS="POST">j</SB>A<SP POS="POST">2</SP><SB POS="POST">k</SB>(for example, silver carbonate) in the reaction system.
