Heavy duty cable with an outer sheath having an extruded fibril reinforced polymeric matrix

A heavy duty cable for applications which involve heavy mechanical stresses and/or harsh environmental conditions. The cable includes a core (2) having a transmissive element (3) and an outer sheath (5) disposed in a radially external position relative to the core (2). The sheath (5) includes at least one continuous reinforcing layer (6) consisting of an extruded compound made of a fibril reinforced polymeric matrix. The fibrils have an average length of from 0.1 to 2 mm. A process for manufacturing the cable is also disclosed.
