The device has a cutting unit (1) with a cutting table (2) whose upper section (3) runs along horizontal direction, where a plate (10a) to be cut is placed in the upper section. A stacking unit (11) comprises a conveyor belt (12) with a horizontally running upper section (13) clamped between the rollers. A control unit (41) stands in signal connection with a drive (16) and another drive such that a carriage (23) is movable from one position to another position (B) when the upper section of the conveyor belt resides in a horizontal standstill condition relative to a contact surface (32).
