<p>A suspension (7) for a drum type washing machine includes a cylinder (24), a magnetic field generator (36) fixed in the cylinder (24) and generating a magnetic field in a variable manner, a pair of magnetic members (35, 37) located at both axial sides of the generator (36) respectively, a shaft (22) supported so as to be axially reciprocable relatively between the generator (36) and the magnetic member (35, 37) and so as to extend through the generator (36) and the magnetic member (35, 37), a smart fluid (40) including a magneto-rheological fluid filling a first space defined between the shaft (22) and the magnetic field generator (36) and a second space defined between the shaft (22) and the magnetic members (35, 37) and located near the first space, and a sealing member (34) which is fixed in the cylinder (24) so as to be located below the generator (36) and is in close contact with a periphery of the shaft (22) thereby to prevent leak of the smart fluid (40).</p> |
