METHOD OF SERVICING AN AIRFOIL ASSEMBLY FOR USE IN A GAS TURBINE ENGINE

A method of servicing an airfoil assembly (10) for use in a gas turbine engine. The airfoil assembly (10) is defined by a base material and includes an airfoil (12) and a platform (16) from which the airfoil (12) extends. A predetermined amount of the base material is removed from the airfoil assembly (10) proximate to a fillet area (18) of the airfoil assembly (10) via water jet material removal. The fillet area (18) comprises a junction between the airfoil (12) and the platform (16) and is located at an intersection between the airfoil (12) and the platform (16). A remainder of the base material comprising base material of the airfoil assembly (10) other than proximate to the fillet area (18) is left intact.
