A chewing gum composition comprises one or more layers surrounding a central core, at least one of the one or more layers surrounding the central core being a layer of chewing gum, wherein the central core comprises a first material in a powder form having a first average grain size, and wherein the outermost layer of the one or more layers comprises a coating comprising a second material in a powder form having a second average grain size. A method of manufacturing the chewing gum composition is also disclosed. The first and/or second material may impart a cooling, warming or sweetening sensation in the oral cavity or may comprise a fruit flavor.
