<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To debug a computer program on a distributed computer system. <P>SOLUTION: Upon receiving a debug command which sets a breakpoint in a server program 150-1 to be executed at a server node A100-1, a first debug agent 156-5 at a client node 100-5 adds the debug command to a packet generated by a client program 150-5 and sends the packet to a server node A. A second debug agent 156-1 removes the debug command from the packet, sets a requested breakpoint in the server program, and then transfers the packet to the server program.
