The device has covering elements (12) forming main surfaces (14) in cooking zones (10). A setting unit (16) forms a portion of the cooking zones, and comprises sub-areas (18), which protrude out over the main surfaces in operating condition. The sub-areas of the setting unit exhibit increased temperature load than that of sub-areas of the covering elements, which form a portion of the main surfaces. The main surfaces are made of hard-glass, iolite, mullite, silicon nitride and/or composite material with a ceramic matrix. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a hob device.
