A method for accessing and displaying a television programme received via a linear television service comprises: indicating to a viewer, during display of the programme, that a stored (time-shifted) programme version is available; accessing the stored programme (content) in response to user (viewer) selection, e.g. during content reception; and providing stored content programme display from the beginning. For example, a show commences at T1, 50; at a later time T2, 52, a user selects to view the programme. Having realised the programme start has been missed, at time T3 the viewer selects a start again function, 54, causing a stored programme version to be accessed 56 and restarted from the beginning to end 60, after the end of the broadcast. Programmes may preferably be stored and accessed locally (e.g. on hard disc), or be available from alternative remote sources such as the Internet, video on demand (VOD), home networks or cable TV sources. TV content of a similar type to that previously received may be stored. Trick play (e.g., fast forward or playback) may be disabled. Time dependent content deletion can be applied. |
