The method involves arranging a rotor between a rotary blade tip (14) of a rotor blade (12) and a channel wall (16) that is designed as a machine axis (18). The rotor is driven with speed that is below rated speed during operation of a turbomachine e.g. turbine and/or compressor (10), when measuring gap dimension of a radial gap (R) by an external driving device. The radial gap is adjusted to find measured gap dimension of the radial gap. An electrically conductive strip (28) is applied on a foil (26). An independent claim is also included for a device for measuring a radial gap of an axially flow throughable turbomachine.
