PROCESS FOR PREPARING OF γ-BUTYROLACTONE AND N-METHYL PYRROLIDONE FROM 1,4-BUTANEDIOL

PURPOSE: A method for preparing gamma-butyrolactone(GBL) and N-methyl pyrrolidone using 1,4-butanediol is provided to stably prepare N-methyl pyrrolidone of high yield. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing gamma-butyrolactone(GBL) comprises a step of reacting 1,4-butandiol under the presence of a catalyst containing Cu and Zr oxide. The catalyst is prepared by drying a precursor solution containing Cu and Zr and performing thermal treatment under the presence of oxygen at 400-800°C. The reaction is performing at 200-300°C and 1-10 kg/cm^2 G under 200-300 sccm of hydrogen condition.
