The device (10) has a communication unit, a non-volatile memory (13) containing a first code (C1), and a storing unit storing contingency in a RAM (14). A display unit displays a second code obtained from the contingency on a display (17). A universal serial bus (USB)connector (11) receives a message i.e. application protocol data unit (APDU) command, containing third and fourth codes. A comparing unit compares the third and fourth codes with the first code and contingency, respectively. An authorizing unit authorizes access to a function only if the two comparisons are equal. The first and the third codes are personal identification numbers. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for securing access to a function by a securing device (2) a computer program comprising instructions for performing a method for securing access to a function by a securing device (3) a recording medium comprising instructions for performing a method for securing access to a function by a securing device.
