The device (4) has a pivoting lever (6) pivoting under the action of a body shell of a vehicle during assembling of mechanical units e.g. gearbox and heat engine, of the vehicle. The lever exerts effort on gear control cables (2, 3) during its pivotment, to modify orientation of rear end parts of the cables after passage of the cables through an opening of a floor on the body shell of the vehicle. The lever has a lever arm whose end is equipped with a support vane (64) supported on the body shell so as to facilitate sliding of the arm against a lower face of the floor. An independent claim is also included for a method for assembling a control cable of a gear box in a vehicle i.e. automobile.
