LIGHT GUIDE HAVING A CAPACITIVE SENSING GRID AND RELATED METHODOLOGY

PURPOSE: A light guide having a capacitive sensing grid and related methods are provided to offer keyboard backlighting which is uniformly distributed to a keypad. CONSTITUTION: A keypad(190) comprises a first keypad surface, a second keypad surface, and a plurality of preset user interface key areas. The first keypad surface is placed facing the outside of the electronic device. The second keypad surface is placed on the opposite side of the first keypad surface. The second keypad surface is placed facing the inside of the electronic device. A light guide(350) is placed near the second keypad surface. The light guide backlights the user interface keypad areas.
