The device has a rectangular openwork basket (1) made from plastic. An opening of the basket comprises an upper edge whose outer side is provided with two removable or retractable hooks (2) to hook the basket on a handlebar of a bicycle. A strap (3) has two ends that are respectively fixed on a right side and a left side of the opening. The hooks are adjustable on height and width of the basket. An independent claim is also included for a method for utilizing a load carrying device.
