PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily cancel redialing without unnecessarily occupying a connection line with an opposite device to which facsimile data cannot be transmitted.

SOLUTION: A facsimile apparatus 200 is equipped with a main control unit 201 which when the facsimile data cannot be transmitted to a device of an opposite party connected via line by dialing, performs control to redial to try transmission of the facsimile data. When detecting a predetermined signal (e.g. a PB signal) having been transmitted within a predetermined period from the device of the opposite party connected via line, the main control unit 201 disconnects the line with the device of the opposite party and cancels redialing.
