A support system for supporting a load such as a display device includes a mount for a load, a base element and a support arm coupling the mount and base element at, respectively, distal and proximal portions of the support arm, and pivotally connected to at least the base element. A support arm for supporting a load such as a display device includes a balancing mechanism providing a force or torque operative to balance the weight of a display device on or near a first end of the support arm, an adjustment mechanism to adjust the magnitude of the force or torque provided by the balancing mechanism, and an indicator arrangement on the support arm for providing a visual indication of the magnitude of force or torque provided by the balancing mechanism.
