Disclosed are: a gas decomposition element which can utilize an electrochemical reaction to achieve high treatment performance while reducing the running cost for the element; and a process for producing the gas decomposition element. The gas decomposition element is characterized by comprising: a tubular MEA (7) which comprises an anode (2) arranged on the inner surface side of the tubular MEA, a cathode (5) arranged on the outer surface side of the tubular MEA, and a solid electrolyte (1) intercalated between the anode and the cathode; a porous metallic body (11s) which is mounted on the inner surface side of the tubular MEA and is in contact with a first electrode; and a central conductive bar (11k) which is so inserted as to serve as an electrically conductive axis of the porous metallic body (11s).
