<p>A three-dimensional image disparity is converted according to the characteristics of image constituents contributing to sense of depth in a three-dimensional image. A disparity detection unit (110) detects disparities from a left image (L) and a right image (R) of an input image and generates a disparity map (dM). A disparity correction unit (150) corrects the disparities in the disparity map (dM) and generates a corrected disparity map (dM'). A correction characteristic setting unit (130) sets a correction characteristic used when the disparities are corrected in the disparity correction unit (150). An image combining unit (160) combines the left image (L) and right image (R) of a three-dimensional image according to the corrected disparity map (dM') and outputs a three-dimensional image consisting of a left image (L') and a right image (R') as an output image. The three-dimensional image having the disparities based on the set correction characteristic is thereby output. This correction characteristic is set according to how much the characteristics of constituents including a disparity magnitude, a position on the screen, a spatially changing manner, and the like contribute to sense of depth.</p> |
