The furnace (3) has a diffusion device (8) placed at a base of an opening (4) for diffusing a gas such as flammable gas e.g. methane, and inert gas e.g. nitrogen. The device has a lower part for receiving the gas and an upper part comprising a sieve opposite to the opening. The sieve is arranged for causing pressure loss during passage of the gas and for allowing uniform diffusion of gas on entire surface of the upper part. The sieve has a fiber layer placed between a perforated plate and another perforated plate (12), where the sieve is made of porous material. An independent claim is also included for a method for heat treatment of metal parts or recyclable wastes under gaseous atmosphere.
