<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pedestrian detecting device with high precision and efficiency that can accurately detect a pedestrian in an image acquired by a camera and reduce the amount of operations for detecting the pedestrian. <P>SOLUTION: An on-vehicle pedestrian detection device comprises: image acquiring means for acquiring an image around a vehicle; searching density mode setting means that, regarding a searching density in searching a pedestrian in the image acquired by the image acquiring means, sets one of searching density modes including a constant-searching density mode in which the searching density is kept constant within the imaging region, and a focused-searching density mode in which a first region with a high searching density and a second region with a low searching density are set within the imaging region, according to a road situation; pedestrian searching means for searching the pedestrian in the image acquired by the image acquiring means based on the searching density mode set by the searching density mode setting means; and result reporting means for reporting a result of the searching by the pedestrian searching means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
