<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor microparticle phosphor having high light-emitting efficiency and a wavelength conversion member, light-emitting device and an image display each using the phosphor. <P>SOLUTION: This semiconductor microparticle phosphor has a semiconductor crystal core and a shell layer covering the semiconductor crystal core; satisfies following general formula (1): Ec'<Ec(shell) and general formula (2): Ev'>Ev(shell) [wherein Ec(shell) indicates an energy level at the lower end of a conduction band of the shell layer; Ev(shell) indicates an energy level at the upper end of a valence band of the shell layer; Ec' indicates a quantum level formed by the confinement effect of electrons in the inside of the semiconductor microparticle phosphor; and Ev' indicates a quantum level formed by the confinement effect of holes in the inside of the semiconductor microparticle phosphor].
