<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vibration type drive unit that is capable of reducing the consumption of vibration energy from a fixing unit provided at a supporting unit of a vibrator so as to improve output and efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: The vibration type drive unit includes a vibrator and a driven body. The vibrator comprises at least an electromechanical energy conversion element and a substantially rectangular elastic vibration body that is connected to the electromechanical energy conversion element and is formed with a contact unit. The vibrator is capable of generating an elliptical motion at the contact unit. The driven body is in pressure contact with the contact unit of the vibrator and is relatively moved by the elliptical motion. The vibrator includes supporting units that extend from both opposing surfaces of the vibrator in a symmetric manner. Each of the supporting units has a fixing unit that joins the vibrator and a vibrator coupling holding unit for holding the vibrator, an attaching unit for connecting the fixing unit and the elastic vibration body, and a vibration displacement suppressing unit. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
