The device has a tautable webbing (2) provided on a roller (1). A force confinement unit i.e. electric machine (3), is attached to the roller to isolate a portion of the webbing from collision with a vehicle e.g. electric car. The force confinement unit is coupled with an electrochemical energy store (5) i.e. high volt battery, and secured at a body of the vehicle. The force confinement unit and the roller are arranged on a housing. A control unit (4) is connected to a sensor system of the vehicle. The force confinement unit is selected from a group consisting of an electromotor and a generator. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a safety belt device of a vehicle.
