<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method enabling easy manufacturing of ink jet recording sheets and capable of preventing cracks of a fixing layer after drying and of enhancing preservation stability of a coating slip for fixing layer formation before coating. <P>SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the ink jet recording sheets includes: an alkali treatment process of applying alkaline solution having 9.0 or more of pH at 25°C on at least one face of a base material to obtain an alkali-treated base material; and a fixing layer forming process of applying the coating slip for fixing layer formation at least including pigment, polyvinyl alcohol, boron compound and organic acid on the face of the alkali-treated base material to which the alkaline solution is applied and drying the coating slip for fixing layer formation to form the fixing layer.
