<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a writing utensil which can make a user enjoy something beyond his/her expectation and keep him/her increasingly amused in using the utensil by changing the posture and countenance of a character in conjunction with the movement of a knocking part. <P>SOLUTION: The writing utensil comprises a character 20 which has a trunk 21 and a head 22 supported rotatably by the trunk 21 which is supported in a rocking manner with a shaft (first rocking center) 16a of the upper end of a writing utensil body 10 as an actuating base, and the trunk 21 and the head 22 can assume standing positions P1 and forward tilting positions 22; and an interlocking mechanism 30 which makes the operation of the knocking part 13 interlocked with the operation of the character 20. In addition, the interlocking mechanism 30 makes the character 20 bow by tilting the trunk 21 and the head 22 forward accompanied with the push-down operation of the knocking part 13, and concurrently, makes the head 22 relatively rotate to the trunk part 21.
