<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photon detection system which is configured so that a number of photons detected can be determined. <P>SOLUTION: The photon detection system includes: an avalanche photodiode 51; applying means to apply bias on both ends of a photodiode so that an avalanche signal generated by illumination becomes smaller than a saturation value of the system; and measuring means to measure a size of the avalanche signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
