<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bill handling device whose inner conveyance path has a reduced number of branch points and a simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: A bill handling device 10 includes: a reception unit a to receive insertion of bills; a recognition unit b to count the bills whose insertion have been received by the reception unit a; a temporary suspension unit c to temporarily hold the bills counted by the recognition unit b; a rejected bill storage unit d to store bills which the recognition unit b could not count; a storage unit e to store the bills held in the temporary suspension unit c when the temporary suspension unit c releases the suspension of the bills.
