<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide new compositions and methods to treat and/or prevent different physiological conditions associated with pain, inflammation, thermoregulation, and other mitochondria-associated condition in both animals and plants. <P>SOLUTION: The invention relates to compositions comprising, consisting essentially of, or consisting of a polypeptide or a homolog, analog, mimetic, salt, prodrug, metabolite, or fragment thereof. The compositions comprise SEQ NOs: 1-244, 248-249, and any homologs, analogs, and fragments thereof. Such compositions can be used to treat, prevent, and modulate pain, inflammation, and metabolic processes in various organisms including plants and animals. Such compositions can be formulated with an acceptable pharmaceutical excipient for administration to a human or a plant.
