<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve authentication performance by obtaining a high-quality image area 9 in a wider area and increasing image data of a vein. <P>SOLUTION: A biometric authentication device used for authentication with a vein image of a biometrical target comprises a carrying surface on which a biometrical target is placed when a vein image is taken, a light source which illuminates the biometrical target placed on the carrying surface with infrared light, an imaging unit which takes a vein image of the biometrical target with the light from the light source, and an image processing unit which processes the vein image taken by the imaging unit.
